You see, for months now I've been fiddling around with Scripture memorization (I even have my list on my sidebar). Beth Moore set forth the challenge last winter-- two verses a month, I believe it was. Not much. Certainly a very manageable size chunk. So I hopped on board. It made perfect sense, after all... for years Chris and I have impressed upon our children these Words (and the import of them):
"I have hidden your Word in my heart that I might not sin against You."
Psalm 119:11
I enthusiastically memorized my first few, but then life happened. Responsibilities, obligations, projects, lessons, activites, distractions... reviewing and retaining those verses became difficult. And less frequent. The Words, unfortunately, began to slip away...
As for tonight... enter--> Ann. Enter--> her words. Enter--> the Spirit's conviction.
The memorizing-- what happened to it?? Where'd it go?? And why am I not taking it more seriously?? Why am I not practicing what I've been preaching??
Good question.
So back to Ann. In her post she attached two clips from a John Piper sermon-- I'll link them both here because they hit the nail in my proverbial coffin.
Powerful. Inspired. Awesome. For me~
Check them out. And then if you have the time, read Ann's post. And then ponder. And consider. And ponder some more.
And maybe, just maybe, you'll join me.
With fresh commitment, I'll be repeating Words.

Thanks, Heather, for the gentle reminder. I used to be so diligent in this area (before kids) and have become slack in my reviewing and adding of new verses. I have learned, though, that in certain circumstances, the Holy Spirit has been so faithful to call to my memory a verse I had "forgotten."
I love the verse "If we are faithless, He remains faithful. He cannot deny Himself." 2 Tim. 2:13.
I love reading your blog, Heather. It always encourages and challenges me. Your family is so special and it is evident how you all love the Lord and are living for Him! Plus you are a great writer and photographer! Keep it up! Where are you guys living now?
Carrie-- *love* that verse... thank you so much!
Amy-- thank you, thank you, thank you for your sweet words! You know, this blog started as a journal of sorts... a way for me to chronicle our adventures. And that's what it remains-- but if the LORD chooses to use it and minister through it... awesome! I'll consider myself blessed once more!
As for you-- I've been thinking about you guys recently and your sweet little addition... congratulations, dear friend! He's an absolute beauty!! The best gift, eh??
And are you still in the area?? We're back in Chris's old stomping ground... less than a mile from his childhood home (in Old Town). We'd love to see you sometime-- and we'd love to meet your men :) Keep in touch, ok?? And thanks again... your words were a gift today :)
Convicted but not condemned (Praise the Lord) - I spoke with Candy - as soon as I get those prayers I spoke with you about at your mom's house I'll send them to you! Powerful stuff -
I find that when I put on my armor in the morning my sword of the Spirit (Word of God) is being used - however, is often being flung around aimlessly instead of used with purpose for offense.
I connected to the site after reading Wilma's blog the other night. Very interesting and so convicting. Have a great day. Love,Gmom(alias Mom)
