Every year one of our local home schooling groups hosts "Family Field Day." Held at a local park and open to any home schooling families who'd like to participate, this event is usually scheduled for a day in early spring. This year, however, the powers-that-be decided that autumn might be a nice time for such an occasion, so they planned and prepared and organized to make Field Day: October 4th a huge success.
Kids of all ages arrived with their mommies and daddies in tow, anxious for a morning of fun and fellowship. Divided into age-appropriate groups, the children were led by an adult chaperone from one event to the next until they completed every activity. Our family had never participated before so we weren't quite sure what to expect... fortunately, we weren't disappointed. The morning was perfect-- sunny and a bit cool, though warming to the low 70s-- and the fellowship for us all was delightful. We all made new friends and the boys, thank goodness, raced and laughed and competed all morning long until we finally left the park-- exhausted!
Here are a few glimpses of our day:
First we have Noh-man winning the "Empty milk jug-filled Sled Race." He learned quickly that slow and steady wins the race. Bub, on the other hand, was not so fortunate. A bit too quick off the starting block, his milk jugs flew off the sled, costing him precious time as he repositioned them one by one.
... Bub took third place in the high jump. How about that form??
... Big Man, always a sucker for the playground obstacle course!
... Bub & Noh-man, the 2nd place winners of the three-legged race.
Bub with his favorite little sister~
But Noh-man did have the evidence to prove he gave it his best shot!
One of Big Man's favorites-- the tennis ball toss... what an arm!
Noh-man loved the sack race-- here he is racing with one of his good friends.
And here's my ever-patient sidekick, Lolli-lu.
And my favorite snapshot of the boys... a "3-man chest butt," I believe they called it.
All in all, a great day! Field Day was tons of fun and the perfect conclusion to our hectic week. Hopefully there'll be another one in spring; I hate to think we might have to wait a whole year to play like this again!
